The United States has said it has lost a 20-year "war" in Afghanistan

The top military officer in the United States, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Millie, has acknowledged that the United States has lost a 20-year "war" in Afghanistan.

According to PBS, he made this statement before the US House of Representatives Committee on Armed Forces. In his view, the Afghan war and the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan were a strategic failure. The war did not end on the terms the United States wanted, and now the Taliban has come to power in Kabul.

We must remember that the Taliban was and remains a terrorist organization, and they have not yet severed ties with al-Qaeda. I have no illusions about who we are dealing with. It is unknown at this time whether the Taliban will be able to consolidate power or a civil war will break out in the country, he said.

According to General Millie, the U.S. military has recommended leaving at least two and a half thousand U.S. troops in Afghanistan to prevent a sudden collapse of the Afghan government.
