Liz Truss has been appointed as the new Prime Minister of Great Britain

On Monday, September 5, a new prime minister of the country was appointed in the United Kingdom. He became the current head of the British Foreign Ministry, Liz Truss.

This is reported by Reuters.

Truss replaced Boris Johnson in this position, who became a close friend of Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia.

The main rival of Truss in the fight for the premiership was the former finance minister Rishi Sunak. But Sunak ended up getting half as many votes as Truss.

Voting took place on the candidates for the position of chairman of the Conservative Party. This position automatically leads to the premiership, which happened today with Truss.

It should be noted that Truss became the third female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May.

During her leadership campaign, Truss made it clear she would defy convention by reversing tax hikes and cutting other fees, which some economists say will fuel inflation.

That, along with a promise to review the Bank of England's powers while protecting its independence, prompted some investors to abandon the pound and government bonds.

Truss faces a long, expensive and difficult backlog that opposition lawmakers say is the result of 12 years of poor Conservative government. Some called for early elections - which Truss said she would not allow.

Truss said she would appoint a strong cabinet, abandoning what one source close to her called a "presidential style" of governing, and would have to work hard to win over some lawmakers from her own party who backed Sunak in the race.

Also, Liz Truss noted that her policy regarding the attitude and support of Ukraine will remain unchanged. Great Britain will continue to support Ukraine in the fight against the Russian Federation.

Today, Johnson is due to make a final speech in Parliament, after which he will head to the Balmoral estate in Scotland, where Queen Elizabeth II will accept his resignation as prime minister.

The monarch will then receive Truss and formally ask her to form a government under his leadership. After this ceremony, Truss will go to the Downing Street residence and give a speech in which he will outline his priorities as the head of government.

Kyle Gundy, coach of the Oklahoma Sooners has resigned

Cale Gundy, a coach and mainstay of the Oklahoma Sooners college football program, resigned on Sunday after admitting to reading aloud a word in front of the team's players that he described as "shameful and hurtful."

Gundy's 24-year association with the Sooners dates back to 1990, when he played three seasons as the team's quarterback, throwing more than 6,000 yards and achieving 35 touchdowns.

Having graduated in 1993, Gundy went on to serve as a graduate assistant in 1994, before moving on to coach quarterbacks and running backs at Alabama-Birmingham.

He eventually returned to his alma mater's football program as part of the then-coach Bob Stoops' staff in 1999. During the course of over two decades on the sidelines with Oklahoma, the team captured 14 Big 12 titles and the 2000 national championship.

Gundy, 50, announced his resignation in a lengthy statement shared to Twitter, in which he acknowledged saying a word he "should never - under any circumstance - have uttered."

According to the former wide receiver coach, he read the word off the screen of a "distracted" player's iPad during a film session last week. "I noticed a player was distracted and picked up his iPad and read aloud the words that were written on the screen," Gundy's statement explained.

"The words displayed had nothing to do with football. One particular word that I should never — under any circumstance — have uttered was displayed on that screen. In the moment, I did not even realize what I was reading and, as soon as I did, I was horrified."

Gundy continued: "I want to be very clear: the words I read aloud from that screen were not my words. What I said was not malicious; it wasn't even intentional. Still, I am mature enough to know that the word I said was shameful and hurtful, no matter my intentions.

"The unfortunate reality is that someone in my position can cause harm without ever meaning to do so. In that circumstance, a man of character accepts accountability. I take responsibility for my mistake. I apologize."

TikTok sensation Addison Rae blasted for ‘blasphemous’ Christianity-themed bikini

TikTok star Addison Rae is courting controversy with her latest swimsuit snap.

On Tuesday, the 21-year-old TikTok sensation shared an Instagram photo of herself in Praying’s Holy Trinity Bikini ($100), the top of which is printed with “Father” on one side and “Son” on the other.

While the image only captured Rae’s top half, the bottom of the scandalous suit, which was created in collaboration with Adidas, reads “Holy Spirit.”

While the star’s famous friends gushed over the look — photographer Mark “The Cobrasnake” Hunter called it a “home run,” while singer Tate McRae wrote, “oh my god addision” — many commenters expressed their disapproval of the daring swim style in the comments.

“Nah this disrespectful to Jesus. Sad what y’all do for money,” one person wrote, while another pearl-clutcher added, “This is not okay! BLASPHEMY!”

“Is nobody gonna talk about this disrespecting religions,” a third wrote, while a fourth deemed the bikini “so messed up.”

Over the weekend, Christina Aguilera posed on Instagram in the French version of the two-piece — printed with “Père,” “Fils” and “Esprit Saint” — cheekily captioning her video, “A religious experience.” The pop star’s post didn’t draw the same criticism as Rae’s, however; perhaps things got lost in translation?

A favorite of young stars including Olivia Rodrigo, Halsey and Madison Beer in addition to Rae, Praying offers cheeky styles inspired by Y2K nostalgia; popular pieces include a crop top ($55) that labels its wearer “God’s Favorite” and a shoulder bag ($90) that commemorates Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s decade-long love.

Today is the Independence Day of the United States of America

Today, July 4th, the United States celebrates its 246th anniversary of independence.

This national holiday in the USA is established in honor of the Declaration of Independence of the USA from the United Kingdom of Great Britain, signed on July 4, 1776.

Congress made Independence Day an official unpaid holiday for federal employees in 1870 and only changed it to a paid holiday in 1938.

The declaration of independence was signed by 56 representatives from 13 colonies. Only the co-author of the Declaration, John Hancock, signed it on July 4, 1776, and the rest did so a little later. The main author of the Declaration, Thomas Jefferson, was 33 years old at the time of signing. The youngest signer was Thomas Lynch (Jr.) of South Carolina, who was 27 years old. Benjamin Franklin was 70 years old - and he was the oldest; in general, the average age of signatories was 45 years.

Note that the stars on the original American flag were originally arranged in a circle. It was a symbol of the equality of all thirteen colonies.

The first celebration of Independence Day took place on July 8, 1776 in Philadelphia. On this day, the Declaration of Independence was read publicly for the first time after people were gathered in the square by the tolling of the Liberty Bell.

Americans claim that the turkey as the national symbol of the USA was proposed by Benjamin Franklin. However, this is just a well-established legend.

Famously, after the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, it commissioned John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson to create a seal that would represent.

And, despite his persuasion, Franklin did not offer turkey then. According to his notes, Franklin suggested the image of "Moses standing on the shore and stretching out his hand over the sea, thereby causing him to defeat Pharaoh seated in an open chariot" along with the motto "Rebellion against tyrants is obedience to God."

However, this option did not impress the Continental Congress. Only in 1782 was approved the Great Seal of the United States with a white eagle in the center.

The story about the turkey appeared because in one of his letters Franklin criticized the eagle as a symbol of the United States:

"For my part, I would like the bald eagle not to be chosen as a representative of our country," he wrote. According to Franklin, the eagle was a "bird of bad moral character" that "does not make an honest living" because it steals food from the hawk and is too "lazy" to get food for itself.

In contrast, Franklin called the turkey "a much more respectable bird" and "a true native of America." Franklin considered the turkey "a bird of courage" that "would not hesitate to attack a grenadier of the British Guards who should presume to invade his farmyard in a red coat."

This private letter was written on January 26, 1784, but Franklin never made his views public, and when eight years earlier he was given the opportunity to officially propose a symbol for the United States, his idea had biblical motives.

The first celebration of Independence Day took place 4 days later - only on July 8, 1776 in Philadelphia. On this day, the Declaration of Independence was read publicly for the first time to the people who gathered in the square to the ringing of the Liberty Bell.

The first organized mass celebrations took place in Philadelphia in 1777. Many of the elements of that celebration later became a tradition - for example, honoring the colors of the flag, holding a parade and fireworks.

Fireworks shows are now held in every city in the United States on Independence Day.

On the 4th of July, Americans attend ceremonial parades, watch holiday concerts with the participation of leading stars and military bands, and have barbecues.

Among the traditional dishes on Independence Day, it is worth highlighting hot dogs, cheeseburgers, potato salad, various cakes and pies.

But no matter what is on the table and no matter where you celebrate, American symbols are an important element everywhere - from flags around the house, clothes and accessories to tableware and napkins in the colors of the American flag.
