Liz Truss has been appointed as the new Prime Minister of Great Britain

On Monday, September 5, a new prime minister of the country was appointed in the United Kingdom. He became the current head of the British Foreign Ministry, Liz Truss.

This is reported by Reuters.

Truss replaced Boris Johnson in this position, who became a close friend of Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia.

The main rival of Truss in the fight for the premiership was the former finance minister Rishi Sunak. But Sunak ended up getting half as many votes as Truss.

Voting took place on the candidates for the position of chairman of the Conservative Party. This position automatically leads to the premiership, which happened today with Truss.

It should be noted that Truss became the third female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May.

During her leadership campaign, Truss made it clear she would defy convention by reversing tax hikes and cutting other fees, which some economists say will fuel inflation.

That, along with a promise to review the Bank of England's powers while protecting its independence, prompted some investors to abandon the pound and government bonds.

Truss faces a long, expensive and difficult backlog that opposition lawmakers say is the result of 12 years of poor Conservative government. Some called for early elections - which Truss said she would not allow.

Truss said she would appoint a strong cabinet, abandoning what one source close to her called a "presidential style" of governing, and would have to work hard to win over some lawmakers from her own party who backed Sunak in the race.

Also, Liz Truss noted that her policy regarding the attitude and support of Ukraine will remain unchanged. Great Britain will continue to support Ukraine in the fight against the Russian Federation.

Today, Johnson is due to make a final speech in Parliament, after which he will head to the Balmoral estate in Scotland, where Queen Elizabeth II will accept his resignation as prime minister.

The monarch will then receive Truss and formally ask her to form a government under his leadership. After this ceremony, Truss will go to the Downing Street residence and give a speech in which he will outline his priorities as the head of government.
